A dedicated construction site manager has been given a top award by his employer thanks to his work on a supported housing scheme in Wigan.
Charlie Welsby, 46, has worked for builder and developer Seddon for the last 14 years and currently manages the site on Borsdane Ave in Hindley, which the company is delivering on behalf of Wigan and Leigh Homes.
The scheme will see the construction of 20-apartments and four semi-detached properties over the next 26 weeks.
Charlie was named Site Manager of the Year by Seddon, an accolade that has been awarded since 2007, at a surprise ceremony on the site.
He was presented with a silver brick, dedicated to Jack Davies, who was a Contracts Manager with Seddon for more than 30 years.
Presenting the trophy Carl Wilde, Seddon's Regional Director for the North West, said: "Charlie has shown himself to be one of Seddon's best site managers, he is well respected by everyone working on the site and the clients he manages the sites on behalf of.
"I know Wigan and Leigh Homes has been really impressed with Charlie, his dedication to the job and the work he oversees on the construction site.”
Charlie worked with Jack Davies, who the trophy is dedicated to, for more than five years at the beginning of his career.
"I am really honoured to be seen in the same league as Jack, he was what we call in the trade as a "good builder” he told it like it was and lived and breathed the job,” said Charlie, who son also works for the builder and developer as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
Charlie, from Salford, has his new trophy in pride of place at home.
Cheryl Jones, new build and regeneration manager at Wigan and Leigh Homes, said: "This is a fantastic accolade for Charlie and we are proud that he has won this award while working on a Wigan and Leigh Homes development.
"At Wigan and Leigh Homes we are committed to building high quality new homes and creating strong and sustainable communities.
"We very much look forward to the new development in Hindley being completed by Charlie's team and the first residents moving in.”
